Michael Kaplan
Michael Kaplan is Professor of Architecture Emeritus at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he has taught architectural design and theory. Winner of the AIA Education Honors Award in 1991, he is a licensed architect and has lectured and published widely on cultural aspects of architecture. His lectures on the history, theory and practice of 3-dimensional architectural photography have been presented at venues throughout the US.
He has produced four View-Master sets of three reels each. One is a study of three eccentric homes by Architect Bruce Goff, another is a study of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece, Fallingwater, another has both his images and historic stereo images of another Wright masterpiece, the Johnson Wax building, and the fourth is a look at contemporary master Frank Gehry.
If ever there was a subject suited for stereophotography, it is architecture. Although I have seen 2D and films of Fallingwater many times, nothing has conveyed the sense of being there as much as these View-Master reels. One only wishes Kaplan had written more about the buildings to accompany the images.
