Mark BlumEmail: markb@redshift.com
Mark Blum has been photographing in stereo since the late 1960s. His underwater and nature photography is without peer. A resident of Pacific Grove, CA on Monterey Bay, his three books Beneath the Sea in 3D, Bugs in 3D, and Amphibians and Reptiles in 3D come with a built-in viewer and they are nothing short of astonishing. All the elements of great portraiture are there: dramatic lighting, perfectly balanced colors, carefully planned compositions, and the essence of each individual subject is captured. He turns tiny insects and fish into monumental sculptures with unfathomable detail. One can count the lenses in the eyes on the robber fly (there are thousands) and the hairs on the tarantula (the same number). Each of the many richly reproduced color plates is accompanied by a paragraph describing the subject. He has other books and products available on his site at http://www.undersea3d.com Over 15 years of photographing the world's oceans in three dimensions with custom made equipment, Blum has assembled what he believes is "the most comprehensive library of 3D marine images in the world." During 1998, in commemoration of The Year of the Ocean, his 3D marine images were projected to thousands of people attending the World's Fair in Lisbon, Portugal. |
